The UT Dental Branch is currently located at 6515 M.D. Anderson Blvd. in Houston's Texas Medical Center. The facility has been home to the Dental Branch for more than 50 years, but the UT Health Science Center is building a new school a few miles south, off Old Spanish Trail. The project is currently in the design phase and should be ready for occupancy in 2011.

Dr. John A. Valenza Named Interim Dean
University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston President LInterim Dean John A. Valenza, D.D.S.arry R. Kaiser, M.D., has named former Executive Associate Dean John A. Valenza, D.D.S., as interim dean of the Dental Branch, following the decision of former Dean Catherine Flaitz, D.D.S., to step down so that she can pursue a passion for pediatric dentistry and oral pathology.  The change became effective May 23.

Meet Sam Dorn: New Endodontics Chair
As the new chair of the Endodontics Department at The University of Texas Dental Branch, Professor Samuel O. Dorn, D.D.S., likes to remember where he came fromSamuel Dorn, D.D.S. — driving a taxi in New York City to fund his dental education. He followed that with a successful endodontic career, spending the last 30 years in Florida. “I’m traveling back and forth for a while,” he said. “We hope that will end soon and we’ll all be here.” He’s been at UTDB long enough to have a few ideas about the future of the Endodontics Department, including trimming the speciality program down to 26 months, instead of three years. And that’s just the start.
